My World Cup Story Part 2

In Part 1 of my story I told you how I was in Mt Isa when my World Cup dream started to materialise. Well, next week I return to Mt Isa for the same Expo I attended 4 years ago, (in fact every year since as well). You could say that I have fond memories of Mt Isa, but you would be wrong. I have many fond memories of leaving many of our outback towns in a plane, but leaving Mt Isa is the memory I hold dearest.

As the path to South Africa 2010 heats up I will have plenty to think about on the 2hr flight to Brisbane next Friday. 4 years ago it was all new to me, but this time I have my memories to draw from, and the Socceroos have a new path to follow through Asia.

The June 1st match represents the start of a 4 match/3 week tour for the Aussies.

  • June 1 v Iraq in Brisbane
  • June 7 v Iraq in Bahrain
  • June 14 v Qatar in Qatar
  • June 22 v China in SydneyAussies On Tour Meet Up in K-Town

Although my finances will prevent me from going to the middle east, I will be watching both games here in Australia. The Brisbane match is easy as I am only 100km from the ground. I will be buying my Tickets from the MFF e-mail link on Monday, and will more than likely be housing a few Socceroo supporters from Interstate and the other end of the state. These are people I never new 4 years ago. I now have a whole new group of friends I share the same passion with, of following our Socceroos.

Happy Birthday Veronica

I have booked my flights to Sydney with Veronica for June 21 - June 23 for a nice romantic weekend in Sydney. The fact that there is a Football match on the Sunday is just a bonus.

Did I mention that it is also Veronica’s birthday the week before? I like to tell the story that in 2006 I took my wife all the way to Austria for her Birthday. We spent the day at Neushwanstein Castle just inside the German border. The fact that the World Cup of Football was on at the same time was also just a bonus.

After the match in Sydney the group will be decided and the top 2 will go through to the next round of qualifying. So as you can see, there is much Football to be played yet. The Socceroos need to be in that top 2, and they need YOU to support them, especially at home.

Cheers

Terry
