Who is the lucky one?

Who’s the Lucky One??

I believe my wife, Veronica, is the Luckiest wife on the planet.

On Sunday I caught up with a mate of mine from Sydney who is up here on the Gold Coast playing Golf for a whole week. It is an annual pilgrimage that he has started to make with a group of old blokes led by his father in law. Last year he was granted an invite after 16 years of marriage to his daughter.

As happens in a bar after 1 beer, we entered into a deep philosophical discussion about life, in particular about enjoying life. We were talking in particular about an old neighbour of mine that died earlier this year at the age of 39 from Melanoma. I relayed some stories about how much he actually fitted into his short life. He had no idea when he was 20 he only had 19 years to live. But he had some wonderful experiences that he just took a hold of.

Now Bozo has always been a keen golfer and has had his fare share of golf weekends away with the boys. When I played Football with him back in the Stone Age, we had an annual end of season trip to play Golf in Bowral. Bozo said that he was going to take every opportunity to live his life to the fullest, and a week of Golf every year is part of that.

Our home for 2 weeks

I told you all how Veronica was planning to spend our savings on a Thailand trip when Australia did not make it to the World Cup in Germany. That all changed on November 16, 2005. In June 2006 the four of us flew to Europe for a 6 week holiday. Out of those 6 weeks we watched 3 live Football matches involving the Socceroos. The Disneyland CastleWe spent 2 weeks only in Germany traveling around in a camper van. In the middle of this was Veronicas birthday and we woke up in Austria. We visited Neuschwanstein Castle on the German/Austrian border. This is the castle that the Disneyland Castle is modelled off. It is on what is known as the Romantic Road”. What a top bloke I am, how many of you reading this has taken your wife/partner to Europe for their birthday? Not many I bet. And the World Cup just happened to be on in the same area. What a lucky lady she is to be married to me.The AOT boys enjoying a Bia Hoi

Last year I sent myself away to Asia so she could have 2 weeks without me getting under her feet and annoying her with those husband things that always annoy her. It just so happened that the Asia Cup Finals were being played so I had something to do when I was there. What a lucky lady she is to be married to me.

This year I am taking my lovely wife to Sydney for a weekend. We will visit her sister for one night and the other I have booked a lovely room at the Hotel Ibis in Olympic Park. It just so happens that Australia is playing China, so we both get to do something we want. What a lucky lady she is to be married to me.

Ok ok, so it is I who is the lucky one. Ever since November 16, 2005 it has become my passion to follow the Socceroos wherever I can, and I am lucky enough to have a wife who fully supports me on this. She was a football player herself and loves watching the game as well.

As Bozo and I said on Sunday night, life is about following your passion and living life to the full. If that is Football for you then we have something in common. Oh, and i also reminded him he has not sent me that photo of us at the Uruguay match.

Cheers

Terry

    Hello Terry

You know that USA show “Wife Swap”?

Do you want to do that, except at the end we don’t swap back?

    I’m keen. Let me know.

‘Living life to the full’… If there is ever an answer to the question “What is the meaning of life?” then that is it [not to discredit any of Monty Python's theorums of course]… and I am somewhat of an authority on lives being taken far too soon.

We are indeed the lucky ones Tezza, having partners who actively encourage our passions… I harboured secret dreams of seeing as many WCQ’s as possible, but knew in reality that it would probably not be achievable esp the away games… but to my very welcome surprise, I showed Antonette the 3rd round draw and she immediately said we should get holidays in June so we can see all those matches… when we sat down to watch the Kunming game [Aus vs China] she said, “God I wish we were there!”.

Looks like my two vehement passions, being the Socceroos and world travel are pretty damn safe.

Cheers CB, we are indeed lucky. I simply have no money to et to the away matches.

Brendon, this is a “Does my bum look big in this” type question. There is NO correct answer. All i will say is that I am Very happy with Veronica. And does Mel know you want to swap her???

    In answer to your questions:

Yes Terry, your bum usually does look big in whatever it is in.

Mel does know I wish to swap her. She’s the one who keeps suggesting it.

    Cheers!

[...] It has been a big few weeks for Australian National Football Teams. I have focussed on the Socceroos and their route to round 4 of Asian Qualifying. There is a game this weekend against China in Sydney, and I will be there. Some of you may remember this as being my romantic weekend away for my wifes birthday. What a top bloke I am. [...]
