Manchester United
These 2 words seem to either bring utter delight to the millions of supporters world wide, or utter derision from any other Football supporter. Terms like Scum are often mentioned.
Emotional
The emotional response from non MUFC supporters is toxic to say the least. There is never a kind word about them on the various forums that I read from these people. I have no emotional attachment to any English football team. So it is very hard for me to have any understanding as to why these emotions manifest the way they do.
The Team
The team they have assembled at Old Trafford are arguably one of the best teams in the world. That goes for the teams they have had for a good 15 plus years now as well. Their results in this time speak for themselves.
I really enjoy watching them play, as do I enjoy watching Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea etc. I respect the players on the park for what they can do and the joy they bring to the Football public.
I think the person I most admire though is Sir Alex Furgeson for the job he has done with the players. The same goes for Rafa Benitez and Arsene Wenger. These guys are long term managers at some of the best clubs in Europe. They bring out fantastic qualities in their players and blend them into champion teams.
The Neutral
As a neutral Football supporter it is easy for me to enjoy and praise any team I see play, without the emotional baggage that some supporters seem to carry around. I can’t believe all that negativity is good for anyone.

Political Correctness Gone Mad
This has nothing to do with football, but I am sick of reading stories like I did last week about the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney banning all crosses, bibles and other Christian symbols from the chapel at the hospital. Apparently they think it should be a “Non Denominational” prayer room. The hospital already has a separate Muslim Prayer room.
We live in a country that is a “Christian Country” by definition. Our calendar is filled with Christian holidays and many Australians attend various Christian churches every weekend. Our laws are based in Christianity with Oaths taken in court and parliament taken on a Christian bible.
Now I would bet my left nut that the idiot bureaucrats at RNS did not get a complaint or even consult the “Non Christian” communities about this. And even if 1 complaint was received then too bad. Majority rules.
Now I am not a racist is any way, shape or form. I am a Christian which to me, means I am accepting of ALL religions, race and color. I am happy to accept foreigners who choose to come to our country for a better life. They are also most welcome to practice their own religion. If that means setting up their own houses of worship then so be it. This is exactly what DOES happen.
I am sick to death of reading stories like this where bureaucrats change rules like this to “not offend” people of other faiths etc. Well I am offended that these bureaucrats think this is OK. Are these other religions really offended at our Christian Symbols? I think not. You may get the odd agitator who will jump up and down but they are a minority within their own groups.
We live in a great country shaped by great people over the past 220 years of “Christian” settlement, and a few million of Aboriginal inhabitation before that. Now if people choose to come here then they need to learn to live in our country withal our symbols, customs and faults. If I went to a Muslim or Hindu country I would be expected to observe their laws and customs, why should it be any different here?
Now If I did some research I am sure I could come up with a 1000 cases from around the western world where this sort of crap has happened. Not here Australia, not here. Speak up and let our leaders know what WE want.

Does that make me a Twit? There are a number of people who would say I am just making it official and public. Anyway if you want to “Follow” me click on the “Follow” button at the side and be mesmerised by my stunning wit and profound comments.
I am also on Facebook. I know, I am just one of those social butterflies who cannot get enough online buddies. SO if you want to “friend” me so I can just add you to my list and me to yours then drop by and ask to be my friend.

I started this blog for my friends to read and hopefully others would follow. There does seem to be a small band of my friends checking in from time to time, so I guess I should start writing something once or twice a week.
Friends

Aussies On Tour Meet Up in K-Town
The biggest bonus I have gained from following the Socceroos since WC06 are the friends I have made.
From these friendships I now have friends all over this country, and on a number of occasions these guys and gals have stayed at my place. Last weekend I had the opportunity to crash at someone else s place.
I flew to Cairns for business in Far North Qld. My friends Chris and Ant let me stay a couple of nights last weekend and again Thursday night before I flew home.
We talked a lot about Football, Socceroos and the A-League. Had more than a few beers and generally enjoyed each others company, ( at least I think they enjoyed my company).
My point is, get out there and follow the Socceroos to away games, meet new people who have exactly the same interests as you.
Or indeed follow any team or sport (read V8 Supercars Geoff), get out of the house, of your arse and enjoy life.
I can’t believe i did’nt start years earlier.

On March 30 will be my first birthday. I satrted with a Post “Want to Make a Million Dollars” It was about how I could make money from a Blog site if I could write good content and often. Well after 12 months I have written 96 posts and have $21.94 in My Google Adsense account. I can’t even get the money until i reach $100.
So overall, a pretty piss poor effort.
But i did renew my site and hosting so I guess I should do something with it.
What I need to do is stop being scared of what you think of me and my writing. I have had some compliments on my writing style (of which I never knew I had), but maybe they were just being kind.
My mate Brendon wrote this week about his 4 secrets to his success.
- Huge Ego
- Ignorance
- Luck
- Competitiveness
Of these I have NO Ego, and a moderate competitiveness, the other 2 I am all good. Basically the Ego thing is to unfailingly believe in yourself. Maybe I should try that.

Victorian Bush Fires
For the first 30 years of my life I lived adjacent to the Royal National Park south of Sydney. I do not know how many Bush Fires I witnessed but there were a fair few.
Nothing I witnessed came even close to the horror I have seen on the TV from my Gold Coast home. This is absolutely the worst disaster I have witnessed in my life time and I am sure the survivors of the Victorian Bush Fires will feel the same.

Victorian Bush Fires
Destruction
Only the 1942 bombing of Darwin netted a greater number of dead and Cyclone Tracey evacuated 43000 people from the town. But the current fires in Victoria are our greatest peace time disaster with nearly 200 people confirmed dead, with that number expected to rise.
What To Do
This question came to me within the first hour of watching the disaster unfold on national TV. What I have done is donate money to the Red Cross Bush Fire Appeal. I urge all the readers here to do the same if you have not already done so.
I send my thoughts, hugs and Love to all those affected by this tragedy.

At approximately 9pm last night i had a phone call from my youngest son, with those 4 words.
First thought – Ohh Shit.
Second thought – He rang so he must be ok.
I have been a parent for over 18 years now. It is the hardest but most rewarding job I have ever had. They grow up all too quick and then get a drivers license. We logged his 100 hours, we had a really good driver instructor teach him the finer points. (He is also a police sergeant).
But there is nothing like experience behind the wheel. Blake has had his license 46 days. It had rained for the first time in weeks and he just lost control on a flat curve. It does’nt take much.
Miraculously he and his 2 passengers escaped without a scratch. They have sore shoulders from the seat belt and one has a sore knee. But all in all they are OK. And thank God for that.
The car will more than likely be written off, but it can be replaced.
Those 4 words at 9pm were like a knife into my eye, I just could not believe I was hearing them. Tick it up as another parental experience. One I hope will never be repeated.
Drive safe people.

Up Up and Away.
The old Superman line could well apply to GCU and our Owners ambitions. Miron Blieberg with the help of Clive Palmer’s cash and Private jets has been around the globe searching for Football Talent. 3 Brazillians and a Dutchman are now part of the Squad. But the biggest catch has been Jason Cullina. PSV regular and Socceroo Regular has signed with GCU for 3 years.
Absolutely fantastic news for GCU and the A-League. Click on the links for the stories. Here is our Logo for the new franchise.

Gold Coast United
As a FAN, I am really excited about next season. I have found a really good forum to contribute to as well. There is also a guy organising a supporters club meeting. If you are on the Coast and want to be part of the first meeting, head over to The Dog and Parrot on Monday February 2nd at 7pm. I will be there to hear what Clive has to say.
Cheers

Following a sport or a team is a very satisfying pursuit in my books. It is an outlet after you finish work for the week or day.
As I said in my last post, some fans go to great lengths to support their team. Another guy to do this is Jason Vamverkaris a long time GGA member and leader in the Frequent Fan Miles. ie. he has traveled more km’s to watch the Socceroos than anyone else on the GGA site.
Well Jason is not only a Socceroo nut but a genearl sports fan. He and a small group have created a weekly online paper called “The Sports Pages”. Go to the site and download the latest issue or subscribe like I do and receive it in your Inbox every Tuesday.
Happy Reading

Well its been 20 days since my “Last Post”, and like a true sportsman my retirement was short lived. The funny thing about blogging is that once you’ve tried it you need to do it again. So here I am , probably talking to myself, but hey it could be worse. (I think)
Q-Ride
A mate of mine, the guy who talked me into doing this in the first place, has hit 42 years of age and is now entrenched in his mid life crisis (MLC). You see, this guy has done many things in his life and all very

challenging things as well. (Although, I think his lovely wife has the greatest challenge.)
Brendon has ran marathons, triathlons, biathlons and earlier this year he rode a push bike across Australia with his son Jack. He is the shy, retiring type of bloke who tries and stays out of the spotlight (others say he is full of crap).
Now that he has finished his Perth to paradise ride he is obviously looking for an outlet. I told him that Friday arvo beers at my place for regular MLC meetings are just the ticket. But, ohh nooo, not Brendon. He has gone and done his Q-Ride Motorbike training. He has some fantasy of riding across Europe with a bunch of other like minded old farts, but first he is trying out Tasmania. (Good Luck with that)
He keeps harping on about this mob called Australian Motorcycle Academy at Nerang here on the Gold Coast. The best Motorbike trainers in the world apparently. Now, I don’t know about you, but I think he needs a psychiatrist or at least a dozen beers. He does follow that squashed football code that gets a point for missing, so I guess he is behind the eight ball to start with.
Us Football fans know that all you need to do to get a high, is to get the DVD out of November 15, 2005.
oohh what a night
late November, 2005
we kept Johny Warren’s dream alive.
Oh I remember what a night
Cheers
