Iraq Suspended????

Wow, I read last nights post an wondered what drugs I was on. Sorry about that, I seemed to be all over the place.

I managed to get my Ugly Mug on TV tonight. It seems that this story is very news worthy in Australia and since I sent out a Media release yesterday I was contacted by Channel Nine for some comment.

My first go at this and the end result was well below what I thought it would be. However, they say that any publicity is good publicity, so I achieved something.

One point I failed to get across last night was that I totally disagree with the FIFA executive and their stance against the Iraq FA. How can an organisation like FIFA make a decision that directly effects the people of Iraq. These people want to have something positive to look at and follow in place of the day to day violence they come across. Football is that something, it is the World Game and The World Language.

Politics and Sport do not mix. Settle the political differences by dialogue instead of the Big Stick. A mate of mine suggested that by allowing the Iraqis to play now and disciplining them at a later date would be a fat better outcome. I agree with this point, as the fans win and if there are no adverse findings then the IFA and th fans all win as well as FIFA.

There are reports tonight that it is  or will be solved. Lets hope so.

Cheers

Terry

World Cup Story- Part 4

World Cup Tickets - Part 2

I actually spent exactly $3,419.08 on those 4 tickets to watch Brazil play the Socceroos, and have Zero regrets.

Our seats Aus v Brazil

This is about 4.5 months from the World Cup now, I have the whole trip planned and booked and I have a Ticket to see 1 Socceroos match. The excitement is building and I am beginning to be a real pain in the arse at home. I have a countdown timer on my PC and EVERY night is spent doing some sort of research on the trip.

World Cup Story Part 3

World Cup Story Part 3 – World Cup Tickets part 1

Now Australia had made the World Cup Finals, we now had to plan our trip and get tickets. Without rehashing the FFA Travel Debacle, the system worked something like this.

  1. Download Application Form from FFA Travel website
  2. Fill in and save to hard drive.
  3. Type up e-mail and attach form. Save into drafts folder.
  4. Synchronise your PC clock with FFA clock.
  5. Make sure you are at home on December 21st, 2005. Sit at your pc with e-mail opened and at exactly 9am EDST select “Send”.
  6. Scream and shout because you did not turn spell check off.
  7. Cancel Spell check
  8. Go to work thinking you had to have a chance because you could have only been a few seconds late.

My World Cup Story Part 2

In Part 1 of my story I told you how I was in Mt Isa when my World Cup dream started to materialise. Well, next week I return to Mt Isa for the same Expo I attended 4 years ago, (in fact every year since as well). You could say that I have fond memories of Mt Isa, but you would be wrong. I have many fond memories of leaving many of our outback towns in a plane, but leaving Mt Isa is the memory I hold dearest.

As the path to South Africa 2010 heats up I will have plenty to think about on the 2hr flight to Brisbane next Friday. 4 years ago it was all new to me, but this time I have my memories to draw from, and the Socceroos have a new path to follow through Asia.

My World Cup Story Part 1

Before April 2004, I was an armchair follower of the Socceroos. Apart from watching the few live matches that I could when I lived in Sydney, I never really made any effort to travel and follow the Socceroos.

That was until i boarded a plane in Mt Isa and sat in my seat next to Frank Farina, then the Socceroos coach. My first words to Frank were, “What the F*** are you doing in Mt Isa?”. I chewed his ears off for the next 2 hours about the Socceroos and when i left the plane in Brisbane my parting words were “If you get the boys to the World Cup in Germany, I will take my family to Germany as well”. I hopped on a plane straight to Mackay and all I thought about was how was i going to get my family to Germany.

Over the next 2 days i hatched a plan and told Veronica when i eventually returned home. My idea was met with some scepticism, and many questions followed.
