Sports Fans

Following a sport or a team is a very satisfying pursuit in my books. It is an outlet after you finish work for the week or day.

As I said in my last post, some fans go to great lengths to support their team. Another guy to do this is Jason Vamverkaris a long time GGA member and leader in the Frequent Fan Miles. ie. he has traveled more km’s to watch the Socceroos than anyone else on the GGA site.

Well Jason is not only a Socceroo nut but a genearl sports fan. He and a small group have created a weekly online paper called “The Sports Pages”. Go to the site and download the latest issue or subscribe like I do and receive it in your Inbox every Tuesday.

Happy Reading

Fans, Don’t You Love em.

Now there are fans and then there are fans. The second group are those who go to great lengths to support their team. You just have to watch any European or South American club match to see the extend some fans go to.

Now here in Australia we have some pretty die hard fans as well. A mate of mine, CB, is one of those in the second group. A Critical Care Paramedic by day, A Socceroo Nut by night and any other spare minute he gets.

After being inspired by the feats of The GGA’s Stocky and Keg from WC2006, CB has penned his own version of  “World Cup Glory” for the Socceroos of SA 2010.

Now he just didn’t get the mic out and plug into his PC. He took his lovely wife Ant and 4 mates to a local recording studio and recorded this.

World Cup Glory SA 2010

And a also a tongue in cheek shot at those who will not make it to South Africa.

You\'re Not Going to Jo\'burgh

Cheers

Q Ride

Well its been 20 days since my “Last Post”, and like a true sportsman my retirement was short lived. The funny thing about blogging is that once you’ve tried it you need to do it again.  So here I am , probably talking to myself, but hey it could be worse. (I think)

Q-Ride

A mate of mine, the guy who talked me into doing this in the first place, has hit 42 years of age and is now entrenched in his mid life crisis (MLC). You see, this guy has done many things in his life and all very

This is NOT Brendon

This is NOT Brendon

challenging things as well. (Although, I think his lovely wife has the greatest challenge.)

Brendon has ran marathons, triathlons, biathlons and earlier this year he rode a push bike across Australia with his son Jack. He is the shy, retiring type of bloke who tries and stays out of the spotlight (others say he is full of crap).

Now that he has finished his Perth to paradise ride he is obviously looking for an outlet. I told him that Friday arvo beers at my place for regular MLC meetings are just the ticket. But, ohh nooo, not Brendon. He has gone and done his Q-Ride Motorbike training. He has some fantasy of riding across Europe with a bunch of other like minded old farts, but first he is trying out Tasmania. (Good Luck with that)

He keeps harping on about this mob called Australian Motorcycle Academy at Nerang here on the Gold Coast. The best Motorbike trainers in the world apparently. Now, I don’t know about you, but I think he needs a psychiatrist or at least a dozen beers. He does follow that squashed football code that gets a point for missing, so I guess he is behind the eight ball to start with.

Us Football fans know that all you need to do to get a high, is to get the DVD out of November 15, 2005.

oohh what a night

late November, 2005

we kept Johny Warren’s dream alive.

Oh I remember what a night
